Weddings
Live music adds both dignity and warmth to a Wedding Ceremony which is unlikely to be achieved with recorded music. We can play for any of the three main sections of the wedding celebration - Ceremony, Drinks-Reception or Wedding Breakfast. At relatively little extra cost we can play for any combination of two sections. We offer a personal service and are happy to invite couples to our home in Northampton to meet us, hear a sample of our playing, and choose the special ceremony items.
We will play prior to the ceremony as your guests assemble, to provide a welcoming ambience. We normally draw mainly from our classical repertoire for this, but usually include one or two O'Carolan pieces which, with their Baroque feel, also work well. We will start playing about 20 minutes before the official start-time and will keep playing as long as necessary - until the bride is ready to enter
Entrance of the Bride (Processional)
The Processional music is usually elegant and stately. You may want to choose music traditionally associated with the entrance of the bride, or you may prefer something more personal. We can offer extracts of a number of popular pieces, arranged to ensure that the music is brought to a musically satisfying conclusion within a few seconds of the bride finishing her grand entrance. So much better than just switching off a recording!
Signing of the Register
The signing of the register (with photographs) can take quite a while, and this is an excellent opportunity for us to play an arrangement of a song or other piece which has a special meaning for you. Please browse our repertoire lists. The only likely restriction may be that religious music will not be permitted in a civil ceremony.
Our repertoire is expanding all the time, so if your special song is not in our repertoire lists, please ask.
Exit of Bride and Groom (Recessional)
The Recessional music is normally cheerful and upbeat, and should contrast the music chosen for the signing of the register. The Period Dance Tunes work very well in this context and Lady Gethin is quite frequently chosen.Reception
If we are playing for the drinks-reception, we will play a mix of musical styles from our repertoire - usually until the receiving-line for the wedding-breakfast. This typically lasts up to one and a half hours.
Wedding-breakfast
When playing during the wedding-breakfast, we usually play from the seating of the bride & groom until the coffee is served (in order to make a discreet exit before the speeches). Typically, this occupies about 2 hours.
